How to write Instagram auto-replies your followers love

A reply that answers the actual question feels like you. Here is what makes an automatic Instagram reply warm and useful, and a simple way to write your first five this week.

Every creator knows the sentence: thanks so much for your message, we’ll get back to you soon, heart emoji. It’s polite, it’s instant, and it lets people know their message arrived.

The replies followers love go one step further. They answer the question. This guide shows what makes an automatic reply feel like you, and how to write your first five this week.

What followers hope to hear back

Think about the last time you messaged a small business. You wanted three things, probably in this order.

  1. 01

An answer to what they asked. Someone asking about sizes wants the size, the price or the link, in one short message.

  2. 02

A sign it’s really you. Your greeting, your usual phrases and your emoji habits tell them they reached the right place.

  3. 03

A next step. A link to book, buy or read keeps the conversation moving while they’re excited about it.

Put those three together and an automatic reply stops feeling automatic. It feels like you answered quickly, which is exactly what happened.

The best automatic reply is simply the answer, in your words.

A quick test for any reply

Read the reply you’re about to automate and ask one question: does it answer something people send you every week?

If yes, it’s worth automating. If it only says the message arrived, keep it in your saved replies, where you choose when to use it.

Saved replies are great for that job. You read the thread, pick the right one and send it. Automatic replies shine when each one carries a real answer, like a price, a date or a link.

What “in your voice” means for a DM

Voice gets talked about a lot. For a DM, it comes down to a short list you already know by heart.

  • Vocabulary. You say drop, not launch. Piece, not item. Sizing up, not size up.
  • Length. Some people answer in six words and some in a paragraph. Followers notice length before they notice words.
  • The opener. Hey, hi, the person’s name, or straight into the answer.
  • Emoji, and which ones. People read these like a signature.
  • The thing you always say. Every creator has one: how the linen softens after three washes, or why the workshop is deliberately small.

Orbit8 is told all of this by you. You choose conversational, balanced or polished, and calm, warm or energetic. You set the humor, the emoji and whether it’s I or we. Then you add phrases you love, phrases to avoid, and a few replies you’ve written yourself.

One question, three replies

A follower writes: “is the green one still available in a medium?” Here are three ways that DM can be answered.

  • A general auto-reply: “Thanks so much for reaching out! We’ll get back to you soon 💛” Friendly, and they’re still waiting for their answer.
  • A keyword automation: perfect for a word you ask people to send, like LINK or GUIDE. This question doesn’t use one, so it stays in your DMs for you.
  • An AI reply: “Green’s down to the last two mediums — here’s the link if you want one.” Orbit8 can send this because you told it about your stock and shared the link.

The third one feels like you because it is your answer. If Orbit8 doesn’t have what it needs, the conversation is saved in your Inbox, and you reply in Instagram when you’re free.

AI replies work on text DMs written in English. Keep your stock notes, prices and links current in Orbit8, and the answers stay current too.

Write your first five replies this week

  1. 01

Open your current instant reply and read it as a follower would. If it only says thanks, add an answer or a link to it.

  2. 02

Write out the five replies you send most often, exactly as you type them. The untidy version is your voice.

  3. 03

Sort them. Replies that go with a word you ask for, like GUIDE or LINK, become keyword automations. Replies that need facts, like prices, hours or stock, are what you tell Orbit8.

  4. 04

Try a test reply, read it back, and switch AI replies on when you’re happy with how it sounds.

Five good replies cover more of your DMs than you might expect. Start there, and add more as new questions come in.
